Military robot market to reach $21B

An unmanned aircraft system is seen on the flight line at Naval Base Ventura County and Sea Range, Point Mugu, Calif., July 31, 2015. The UAS was part of Black Dart 2015, a DoD-sponsored demonstration, July 26 to Aug. 7, that includes industry personnel, observers from allied nations, and participants from four military branches to assess and improve technologies, tactics and techniques used by DoD and its partners in countering the threat of UASs. The global market for military robots will reach $21 billion by 2020, according to a forecast by market research firm ASDReports. This reflects a compound annual growth rate of 9.27 percent from 2015.

Unmanned aerial vehicles will dominate the market, according to the report. In addition, “while the overall market is dominated by the sensors segment, the weapons segment is projected to grow at comparatively the highest CAGR [compound annual growth rate] during the forecast period, primarily driven by the increased use of military robots for combat operations.”

North America will be the biggest market though Europe will experience the highest growth.
