Boeing has been awarded an $82 million contract for infrared sensors for F/A-18 E/F aircraft.
Boeing will provide 12 low-rate initial production Infrared Search and Track (IRST) systems, according to the Department of Defense contract announcement. The IRST system is designed to detect airborne threats, allowing the host aircraft to engage them with air-to-air missiles.
The work is scheduled to be completed by January 2020. The contract was awarded by Naval Air Systems Command.
